HP Printer are becoming such an integral, everyday part of modern life that they have become as essential to people’s working lives as a desk. Printers can connect to Wi-Fi networks in a variety of ways. A common way is by connecting the printer to your wireless router with an Ethernet cable; alternatively, you can purchase a network card for your printer that plugs into the USB port and connects through Wi-Fi.
The internet has made the world much smaller in terms of access to information, but wi-fi printer connectivity is still a relatively new technology. However, it is important to understand that there are a number of steps you can take in order to ensure your wireless printer is connected and ready to run.
When your computer first starts up you should be able to connect wirelessly; however, sometimes it takes a little more time. Most Wi-Fi printers will automatically search for networks when the printer is turned on and will usually find any that are within range. If not, you may need to manually connect either through your computer or through the printer itself.
For some computers, including many Macs, if you start up the printer without first turning on the computer and the printer, you will not be able to successfully connect to it. You need to press and hold the power button on the printer for a few seconds, until you see it turn off and turn back on again. On Macs this can be done by pressing and holding the “D” key until you see a gray screen with an egg icon. On Windows machines this can happen by pressing and holding “Windows” or “R”. This allows your computer’s Wi-Fi connection to be turned on so that it can find your printer when it is turned on. This may initially be inconvenient, but it is often the easiest way to connect a printer wirelessly to your computer.
If you are connecting wirelessly from the computer itself, you will need your network log-in information (often this takes the form of a password or passcode). Once you have typed in this information in, the window should indicate that you are now connected to your wireless network.
The next step is to open up any relevant programs that allow you to print; for example, if printing from Microsoft Word then click on File, and then click Print. In cases such as these, any available printers will be displayed in a list of available options. Make your selection from this list and click OK.

Setting up a printer to a wireless network, be it at home or the office, can seem like a daunting task. Luckily we’re here to help you do just that. Simply follow the instructions below and you’ll be up and printing in no time!
Step 1: Plug in your printer. Step 2: Check your computer’s Wi-Fi setting by clicking “Settings” on the bottom left of your computer’s screen. From there, click “Wi-Fi.” If there is not a Wi-Fi option on this page, access it through System Preferences by clicking “System Preferences.” This can also be found under the Apple logo on the top left of your screen. Then click “Network” and then “Wi-Fi.” Step 3: Click on the Wi-Fi option on your computer’s screen that you wish to add your printer to. It should be listed as a grayed out name by default. Step 4: Once you’ve selected the Wi-Fi network, select the option “Join Other Network.” If this message does not appear, simply move on to step five. Step 5: Your computer will ask you what network you want to set up your HP printer to. There may be a few different options listed here; however, if none of these are specific to your HP printer, do not select them. Select the one that says “HP – Printing – Hide. Step 6: Once selected, the Network Configuration Utility will appear. This is shown under “HP – Printing” on your computer’s screen. You should see a screen asking for whether or not you would like to connect wirelessly or by cable (select Cable). Step 3: Hit the Menu button and choose “Add New Printer” from the options list. Step 4: Now, go to your computer’s control panel and find the printer icon for your printer. In Windows, it’s going to be on the top left of your screen (right border corner) and alphabetically may be under “My Printer“. Write down your number, try to find a similar one nearby, then disconnect from any networks you found that have repeated numbers or letters and reconnect back to yours (if there are multiple networks with repeating numbers or letters, choose the network with the lowest number). Step 7: After you have joined your network, you can now go back to the “Add New Printer” menu and choose your printer from the list of available options. Step 8: Check if your printer is listed in the menu. If not, try going to the start menu again. Select “Run” then type “cmd” into the search box and select “Run as administrator”. In the command prompt window type in “ipconfig /release”, then when it asks if you are sure hit yes. Follow this with a “ipconfig /renew”. This will release your network address and renew it again so that it’s ready for use when needed.
